PoTHoLES is an ode to “Old New Orleans”, many call the Pre-Katrina era. The city that helped raise Melaphyre/Kwesi Ayo in his formative years. Songs from the album are a narrative of the influential years (1984-1991) of 10-17 year old aspiring M.C.

PoTHoLES the title track of this project is the first of Melaphyre ETheoryALL’s catalogue that used the “TriggerMan” sample known to start the bounce era in New Orleans Hip Hop. The song is sort of a homage to the year bounce was recognized as starting 1991. This was the same year Melaphyre graduated went away to college FAMU and came back to discover the phenomenon of bounce music. Other songs on PoTHoLES talk about what it was like growing up in New Orleans giving the listener a window seat perspective of the city he would see from the seat of his grandfathers Buick “Deuce & 1/4”. The album is ultimately a project about perseverance and overcoming adversity as the song PoTHoLES states “thats just a bump in the road”.
